A programme tailored to build positive character to the “Young and Dangerous” through football. Influencing youths with sports during these children to teenager stage is a highly effective way to keep them on the right track. Values like teamwork, a responsibility to self, respect to others and leadership qualities are imparted to the boys gradually. Opportunities are provided to them to experience these values practically during their years in this academy. For more than a decade, we have worked with many batches of young people at the stage of their ‘rebellious years’, helping them overcome their tough personal/ family situations. We find satisfaction in witnessing our boys overcome this stage of their life and matured into fine adults integrating into the society.

Three elephants, not one, were successfully collared to reduce the risk of human-elephant conflict in a restricted 1000-square-metre forested area of Eastern Thailand. The collared elephants are located in areas where high human-elephant conflict occurs, also known as the “red zone”.

The statistics are clear: a total of 107 elephant and human conflict occurrences resulted in deaths and injuries, over a five-year period (2012 to 2018) alone, according to Thailand local media news outlet The Nation. Collaring the elephants, in this case, is one proven way to protect them from getting attacked by humans. Tracking their whereabouts will prevent humans from invading their space.

The main reason why both are injuring each other: habitat loss and competition for agricultural land. For the wild elephants, the Eastern Forest Complex has been their home for the past four centuries. The conflict started when human development threatens their home.

As a result, both elephants and humans act against each other, leading to more severe attacks. The “chosen” ones to get collared. The elephants were not chosen at random. In fact, the Department of National Parks – WWF Thailand (DNP) team was following the elephants’ behaviour for sometime before they narrowed down to one elephant from the group. One characteristic they look out for: it needs to be a leader and have peers. This ensures that the selected one can represent the movements of a group after installation of collar. Collaring the elephants will also help the field team to define areas the elephants are using the most to patrol smarter.

These collars will be used to study the migratory movements of these elephants so as to resolve the issue of elephants coming in and destroying the agricultural lands. This is not an issue that comes down to whether elephants kill people or people kill elephants, it’s about finding a viable solution where elephants can live in harmony with people in the future,” said Dr Pinsak Suraswadi, Deputy Director-General of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation.

Victory Shipping is committed in its partnership with WWF to continue its efforts to seek a viable solution to human-wildlife conflicts around the world.

Adding another feather to its cap of growth and success over three decades, Victory Shipping was presented the Singapore Enterprise 50 award for the second year running in 2021. The award is a prized recognition of its contributions to the shipping industry as well as to the betterment of society. It reaffirmed the company’s standing among the very best-of-the-best in Singapore. Victory Shipping dedicated the award to its clients and its global team who have been the bedrock of its success.

It was in 2011 that Victory Shipping entered the Global Dry Bulk market and, with its firm foundation in the shipping industry, made its name as a reputed international dry bulk operator, in the process building long-standing relations with international trading houses, industry and producers/miners around the globe. 2020 was a significant year as Victory Shipping carried 17 million tonnes of cargo and passed the completion of 900 vessels.

Victory Shipping operates an average fleet of about 15-20 ships, representing a minimum of 1 million DWT on the water at any given time, which, depending on the current market, may be chartered for trips of short periods or longer duration. Victory Shipping primarily operates its fleet in the Supramax, Panamax/Ultramax and Cape segments. The vast experience and diversity of its team, combined with a healthy mix of high volume and niche market business, were key to its success. A major part of the company’s management strategy entailed following the dynamics of a constantly changing dry bulk market. It is this flexibility and diversity, combined with a solid financial footing, that provides its clientele with the benefit of dependability and commitment, and has allowed Victory Shipping to stand the test of time.

The team of Victory Shipping lives this philosophy and, through its structure, is able to provide its partners with first class shipping services. Its team, based in Singapore, Malaysia, the UAE and India, comprises chartering and operations specialists with backgrounds in multinational trading houses, shipbrokers, shipowners and operators. Placing equal value in both its chartering and operations, Victory Shipping is well known for its support/operations team adding high value to its partners by employing a professional and proactive approach, highlighted a company release.
